Guest pianist Christina Petrowska Quilico and her recordings of composer Ann Southam
I am joined by pianist Christina Petrowska Quilico, raised in Ottawa and studied in Toronto and Juillard in New York City. She has had a long career as a concert pianist and teacher, and she has made a speciality of contemporary piano music and particularly Canadian composers. We hear four pieces from her recent album Glass Houses Revisited, with 9 rich and gorgeous minimalist pieces by the late Ann Southam.
She will be performing Glass Houses #5 and another piece Friday afternoon in a free concert of Juno-nominated pieces at the NAC. More information at www.nac-cna.ca
We also hear some pieces from her 2011 Liszt album which includes mostly a selection of the sublime late pieces and we conclude with Liszt's Rigoletto Paraphrase, not a surprising choice by Petrowska Quilico as her late husband Baritone Louis Quilico was most famous for the many many times he performed as Rigoletto in Verdi's famous opera.
