John Luther Adams "everything that rises"; music from Cuba, Bedouin music from Egypt and more.

There have been a few releases in the past few years of music by John Luther Adams which have somehow escaped my notice! I'll be sharing this incredible music over the next few months. This week, we will hear "everything that rises" for string quartet, played by the JACK Quartet, who I believe are the best string quartet specializing in new music which exists today. John Luther Adams writes: “everything that rises, my fourth quartet, grew out of Sila: The Breath of the World—a concert-length choral/orchestral work composed on a rising series of sixteen harmonic clouds. This music traverses that same territory, but in a much more melodic way. Each musician is a soloist, playing throughout.
