The World Burns. Dance like there's no tomorrow.
The world seems to be aflame, both literally and metaphorically, and the death of a great woman such as Ruth Bader Ginsburg is not what the world needed right now. In a nod to Ginsburg's great lifelong love and support of Opera, we will begin the first set with the extremely joyful Overture from the Marriage of Figaro but we will end with one of Ginsburg's favourite moments in Opera, the apocalyptic Immolation scene completing Wagner's "Gotterdammerung" and the epic Ring Cycle. After the grand solo by Brunhilde lamenting her grief and commanding Valhalla and all the Gods to burn, ushering in a new free world for humanity, she mounts her steed and rides into the pyre accompanied by the most glorious music Wagner ever wrote. Ginsburg had said of Gotterdammerung: "Only a woman could do it; only a woman could change the course of history."

Constantinople had been scheduled to perform the last of their 4-concert Ottawa series this past June with the incredible Corsican ensemble A Filetta. Sadly, I don't know if they will return once the pandemic is over. However, Constantinople has just travelled to Corsica where they performed with A Filetta, so hopefully their collaborations with A Filetta are far from over. |

After the Twilight of the Gods, I believe the only appropriate response is to dance like there's no tomorrow. The next set includes six un-released tracks courtesy of Analog Africa as a teaser for their upcoming release "La Locura de Machuca 1975-1980". These six tracks are not part of that compilation, but give a good idea of its contents which delve deep into the catalogue of the Columbian label Machuca which specialized in unusual Afro-Columbian psychedelia. We also intersperse it with three irresistible tracks from Orchestre Poly Rythmo de Cotonou.
