Saudade, with bit of Beethoven, music from Greece, the Balkans, Argentina, Cabo Verde and more.

The feeling of saudade, the Portuguese mood which translates loosely into melancholy longing and nostalgia will run through a large part of today's show. Beginning with one of Beethoven's chamber masterpieces from his middle period, the third of the Razumosky quartets composed in 1808. We will also hear music from Greece, the Balkans, Argentina, Cabo Verde and more.

Tonight we have a rare opportunity to hear the superstar Quebecois conductor Yannick Nezet-Seguin conduct at the NAC. Yannick Nezet-Seguin has really been launched to the top-tier of conducting over the past decade, taking up posts as the musical director of the Philadelphia Orchestra and in 2018 the music director of the Metropolitan Opera, the largest classical music organization in North America. On top of this he has somehow found the time to continue as musical director of the Orchestre Metropolitain de Montreal, which he has led since 2000. In September 2019, the orchestra announced their contract with Yannick Nezet-Seguin is now a lifetime contract! Tonight he brings hiis Orchestre Metropolitain de Montreal to Ottawa in a program with the final work by Quebecois composer Jacques Hetu, his large choral 5th symphony, premiered just a few weeks before his death in 2010, as well, Mozart's great Mass in c minor. We hear Nezet-Seguin conduct his orchestra in a short, but flamboyant orchestral piece by Quebecois composer Pierre Mercure from 1948.

Listening in... Sandy Lopicic Orkestar. VERY COOL. Reminds me a bit of Zmei3. Not sure why exactly, but. Thanks, as always. ;^)

Really dug the orchestral piece around 14h30 today. It kept evoking elements of Mache dich mein herze rein from the Matthew Passion. Thank you for airing it, whatever it was!

That was Kaleidoscope by Pierre Mercure (I believe you meant 15h30). It hints at an enormous amount of different music.
