The last of 12 exceptional concert recordings for 2019: Master of the Sindhi Sarangi Lakha Khan in concert in Nashville.

For 2019, I have chosen 12 exceptional concert recordings to program with one each month. I have set a couple of simple rules: the recordings will be played in their entirety and represent a single concert. These 12 recordings feature some of my favourite artists, and in many of the cases, also represent the very best from these artists. For the final concert of 2019, we will hear a concert by the Sindhi Sarangi master Lakha Khan from Rajasthan, India given in Nashville, Tennessee in 2013. On Facebook I have been following Lakha Khan as he toured through Europe this fall to mostly sold-out houses. A true treasure of Rajasthani folk music, I hope he had the chance to record another live album. Today we will enjoy his wonderful music from this 2013 concert. He plays the sarangi and sings and is accompanied by his son, Dane Khan on dholak.

Lakha Khan ended with a extremely popular Qawwali poem in praise of the 13th century Sufi saint Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. A couple of these poems are very famous from Nusrat's repertoire, so we'll have to hear one of them!
