2018 World Cup! Music from the five African nations. Some highlights from the upcoming Ottawa Jazz Festival and more.

2018 World Cup! Being an eternal dreamer, I start every World Cup cheering for the African teams, this time is no different! We will hear music from Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Nigeria, and Senegal. We will also hear some of my picks from the upcoming Ottawa Jazz Festival beginning next Thursday. https://ottawajazzfestival.com/
Do You Mind If I Play
Youssou N'Dour - Music of the World Cup - Columbia
I was in Morocco during the 2002 World Cup. Senegal were in their first World Cup and were playing the defending champions France in the opening game. Against all expectations they beat France, I remember Moroccans exploding with joy! Their team did not qualify, but they were thrilled a fellow African team had beaten the World Champions! Senegal continued their tremendous running making it to the quarter finals. Hoping for a similar story with an African team this time.

Ha! If you really wanted to be the "eternal dreamer" ... you'd be playing all Canadian music. ;^) But still, perfectly good excuse to play some awesome African music.

Great JazzFest preview David. Though you did do a few spoilers so far, and stole some thunder for 'Loosely Connected' program next Weds. ;^) And. NEVER miss a chance to witness Tanya Tagaq live!!! (Playing as we type.) She is AMAZING! Incredibly intense. Even if you have no hair on the back of your neck, it will stand up. Definitely not your Grandmothers' throat singing...

Kimmo Pohjonen, Mari Boine, Tanya Tagaq, all appearing in the same festival in the same year in Ottawa seems quite frankly, shocking!
