Into 1970's Africa with fantastic Afro-funk from northern Cameroon, Cuban-inspired classics from Senegal. Vieux Farka Touré; Carnatic flautist Shashank Subramanyam.

We start off today diving into some irresistible African music from the 1970's: Cuban-inspired Senegalese legend Amara Touré; a new reissue of the complete six Afro-funk songs recorded by Cameroonian Hamad Kalkaba in 1974 and '75. Looking ahead at the Ottawa appearance by the great Vieux Farka Touré we will hear more from his most recent release as well as some stellar live recordings. I am starting to think that Vieux Farka Touré perhaps even surpasses his iconic father Ali Farka Touré as a guitarist.
