Afro-Cuban and Brazilian percussion; a Mingus moment; more classic afro-funk

I have promised twice before to play a great Afro-Cuban and Brazilian percussion suite by the American percussionists Michael Spiro and Joe Galvin. Time constraints have foiled me before, so we will begin with it today. They lead the Afro-Cuban Folkloric Ensemble comprised of students from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where Michael Spiro teaches. This ensemble won the International Percussive Arts Society World Music competition. We will hear their Oya Suite, based on traditional Afro-Cuban songs and rhythms for the Yoruba deity Oya, it also includes Brazilian, African, and other non-Cuban percussion. The finale of the suite suddenly shifts from Afro-Cuban to Samba rhythms, I wish it went longer!
