A look at upcoming concerts with Constantinople's "Under the Indian Musical Sky" and Quartetski Does Bartok's Mikrokosmos, experimental improvisations on Bartok.
Today we look at two upcoming concerts from two Montreal-based ensembles: Constantinople and Quartetski. Quartetski is an ensemble featuring drums, electric bass, guitar, reeds, as well as synthesizer and turntables and have aimed these instruments at 20th century composers such as Prokofiev and Stravinksy. This evening they will be performing at the Ottawa Jazz Winter Fest their experimental improvisations based on Bartok's Mikrokosmos, a set of 153 short piano etudes Bartok composed between 1926 and 1939. We will hear Quartetski perform a selection of 25 of these works. This promises to be a superb concert. Tonight at 6pm.

Constantinople led by Montreal's Kiya Tabassian have followed an extraordinary peripatetic musical career for the last 17 years. Performing and recording music with an extremely wide range of musical collaborators. They are showcasing this in four concert series in Ottawa during the 2017-18 season presented by Music & Beyond. The second concert of the series "Under the Indian Musical Sky" on February 18th features the tremendous Carnatic flautist Shashank Subramanyam. This series is perhaps the most impressive concert series in Ottawa this season. As an added treat, all the concerts are taking place at the gorgeous Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat on Sussex.
