Farewell to adventurous American trombonist Roswell Rudd; Afro-funk; breathtaking old recordings from Malawi; Jazz in Morocco

Today we say farewell to the adventurous American trombonist Roswell Rudd who died two weeks ago on Dec 21st aged 82 years. Since he broke out into the New York City avant-garde Jazz scene in the 1960's, Roswell Rudd always pursued the road less travelled which took him to music traditions from all over the world, including some stellar recordings in the early 21st century with Toumani Diabate and other Malian musicians, and traditional Mongolian musicians, both of which we will hear today, as well as some of his earlier stuff. We will also hear a lot of selections from some very old but simply breathtaking recordings from Malawi, recorded in 1950, 1957, 1958 by Hugh Tracey as part of his extensive recordings he made for his International Library of African Music; some Nigerian Afro-funk, Jazz in Morocco and more.
