Music of Lubomyr Melnyk III. Tanya Tagaq's Retribution.

Time for a 3rd look at one of my favourite secret treasures of music, pianist-composer Lubomyr Melnyk. Not so secret anymore as the music world is finally starting to catch up to his unique music. He has released two new albums this year, and today we focus on the 2nd which just came out on Sony Classical titled "Illirion". This album features a selection of his compositions and improvisation for solo piano. Lubomyr has also recently finished a 10 day sold-out engagement in Toronto at the Art Gallery of Ontario performing the music for the National Ballet of Canada in a new work "The Dreamers Ever Leave You" a ballet inspired by the art of Lawrence Harris. Lubomyr has a long history of providing music for contemporary dance, he worked in the 1970s playing music for dance where he developed his continuous music piano technique. We will also hear an earlier composition commissioned for dance from 1984, "Islands".
