new albums from the Chemirani Trio, Omar Sosa & Quarteto AfroCubano, Oscar musings and Mozart...

We focus today on two new releases from the Chemirani Trio and Omar Sosa. The Chemirani Trio is Djamchid Chemirani and his sons Bijan and Keyvan. Djamchid immigrated to France and had his family there and having grown up there his sons were exposed to an enormous range of music while being trained in Persian percussion by their father. This has led them to joining their mastery of Persian percussion with an enormous range of musicians from all over the world. They have appeared many times on my show with musicians from Africa, South and Central Asia, Jazz and European classical traditions (most recently Bijan in Yom’s “Silence of the Exodus” and the whole trio with a trio of Malian Balafonists). Their new album “Dawar” is their first in a while only featuring the trio. Their long musical perambulations around the world give their new album great breadth and sophistication.
