The main feature for today. Frank Zappa's "classical" / orchestral side. As if one dares to really call it that. Focusing especially on The Yellow Shark. But we'll start with some of his earlier explorations, dating back to the early 1970s. (After a brief teaser.)

The Yellow Shark, (recorded 1992), released Nov 1993, just one month before Frank's death. This is Frank's last recordings before his death, and also his final live performances. Frank was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer in 1990, and threw himself into his classical side. He was very sick at the time of these recordings, but got on stage anyway, to conduct at least a few performances. It is unclear whether he conducted any of these specific recordings.

Tom Waits has listed Yellow Shark as one of his favourite albums, commenting: ""The ensemble is awe-inspiring. It is a rich pageant of texture in colour. It's the clarity of his perfect madness, and mastery. Frank governs with Elmore James on his left and Stravinsky on his right. Frank reigns and rules with the strangest tools.""

R.I.P. Frank Zappa, Dec 1993. Died with your boots, and headphones, fully on!

Frank Zappa is an underrated genius to the norm. A genius to the abnormal and educated musicologist .The modern day composer refuses to die
