New album from Keith Jarrett trio and Vivaldi Recomposed

Today we focus mainly on two great recordings, the brand new release by Keith Jarrett's trio with bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Jack DeJohnette. 2013 marks their 30th anniversary of playing together and ECM released this new recording featuring the trio live in Luzern, Switzerland. A tremendous performance featuring originals and music by Miles Davis, Leonard Bernstein and others. We also continue my seasonal look at composer Max Richter's Vivaldi Recomposed. He wrote this piece based on the Vivaldi favourite, and since Friday is the summer solstice, we'll hear the "Summer" concerto. The recording features the very talented British violinist Daniel Hope. We'll precede the Max Richter with the actual Vivaldi "Summer" concerto. The over-familiarity of this piece does risk its reception among the more musically inclined, but this recording with Italian violinist Fabio Biondi and Europa Galante is a very fresh performance, highlighting how extraordinary and original these pieces were when composed and set loose in Europe in 1723.
