Ottawa Jazz Festival; Romeo Scaccia meets Kocani Orkestar
Looking at some highlights from the Ottawa International Jazz Festival taking place June 20 to July 1st. Ron Sweetman's In A Mellow Tone already spent two shows going over the roster, so I'll be focusing more on creating a jazz groove to put you in the mood to go to the festival!
I will also be looking at a wonderful concert recording with Italian classical/jazz pianist and composer Romeo Scaccia and The Kocani Orkestar. An delicious musical collaboration recorded in Italy.

Haydn's music rarely betrays what he may have been feeling. This dramatic set of double variations might be an exception, it was composed not long after the sudden death in 1793 of a very dear friend of Haydn's, Maria Anna von Genzinger. The darkly chromatic and almost violent coda is unexpected and ends firmly in the minor key, unusual for Haydn or any music from the 18th century. |

Darn, just catching up. Stupid day job thing ... YES, that Mingus piece is WONDERFUL! I was not familiar with it until (I think?!?!) Janis' show a week or two ago. Alas, missed it on air, so back to OnDemand for my fix. ;^)
