Tribute to Jacques Emond

Thinking of Jacques Emond today and the wonderful life he lived promoting Jazz and music in Ottawa for over half his life, both at CKCU and at the Ottawa Jazz Festival. What was most striking about Jacques was not his exhaustive musical knowledge and expertise, but his extraordinary enthusiasm and love of music, and his equally extraordinary generosity in sharing it. We will miss you Jacques!

A Tunisian thread runs through these three last pieces, Dizzy Gillespie's Night In Tunisia followed by Tunisian Oudist and composer Anouar Brahem and Saint-Saens' Africa fantasy which uses Tunisian melodies and is also influenced by North African rhythms--Saint-Saens spent many winters in Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria and died in Algeria.
Benediction de Dieu dans la solitude
Franz Liszt/Marc-Andre Hamelin - Liszt Piano Sonata - Hyperion
If I could play myself a piece in tribute to Jacques, I think I would choose this exquisite masterpiece by Liszt.
