Workshop + Performance with Witch Prophet
1:00 PM on Sunday Aug. 18th, 2019
SAW Gallery, 67 Nicholas St.
Price: WORKSHOP $15 / SHOW $15 / WORKSHOP + SHOW $25

Girls+ Rock Ottawa, Capital Pride • Fierté dans la Capitale and Galerie SAW Gallery present: a workshop and performance with Toronto-based hip hop artist Witch Prophet, a queer Ethiopian-Eritrean woman and mother, self-managed singer/songwriter, and CEO and founder of Heart Lake Records (FKA 88 Days of Fortune).

Witch Prophet is a ground-breaking professional artist and leader in a movement to radically change the way queer artists of colour access and work in the music industry. She was recently featured in a CBC article “Queering the Canadian music industry” which outlined how she has disrupted an industry that has systematically marginalized the work of queer women of colour. Her most recent album, “The Golden Octave”, was released in May 2018 via her Heart Lake Records label. “The Golden Octave” was named as one of the 100 Best Albums of 2018 by Bandcamp and 10 Best Toronto Albums of 2018 by NOW Magazine.

WORKSHOP
Witch Prophet will present an afternoon workshop “Visualize and Write it Down: Manifesting Your Place in the Music Biz” which will provide a step-by-step guide to releasing a project independently, along with how to create genuine and meaningful networks.

SHOW
The workshop will be followed by an evening concert featuring Witch Prophet. Stay tuned for full lineup announcement!

Witch Prophet is a self-managed, queer, Ethiopian/Eritrean, singer-songwriter, the CEO of Heart Lake Records (FKA 88 Days Of Fortune) and member of feminist-based electro dub hop group 'Above Top Secret'. She provides her fans with a soundscape of vocal layers, loops, raps and harmonies on a bed of hip-hop, jazz and soul-inspired beats. Think Erykah Badu meets Lauryn Hill meets Jill Scott.
