Wonderful show! Last week on the Saturday Morning Show in a moment of remembering Chopper, Floralove Katz (Ottawa Klezmer Band) said Chopper was her guitar teacher at the Ottawa Folklore Centre. So in answer to the question about what/whether he played an instrument, I guess at one point he played guitar well enough to teach... Arthur McGregor perhaps could confirm???

In 1983 when we moved from guelph area to Ottawa valley we discovered Chopper's Canadian Spaces and were so delighted! we felt we were now home and settled! Chopper is truly with us ALL always. CKCUFM is doing a great job of helping everyone to rise again.

Other than possibly at Irene's, the context in which I came to know Chopper best was during my stint hosting the Saturday Morning show before Canadian Spaces. Always a challenge at funding drive time, as you knew everyone in radioland was waiting to pledge to Chopper, it was an honour to be the warmup act for a truly beloved show and host. The image I will hold of our friend Chopper is of his arriving with Commander Cam sometime after 9 a.m., to find me and my occasional co-host Jim Bryson amusing ourselves with a tune by Andy "The Pontiac Prowler" Lusk or Angus "The Prime Minister of Canadian Country Music" Walker. The look we'd get from Chopper was not so much disapproving as it was genuinely puzzled. Who, he was clearly wondering, let this person on the air? I would on occasion remind him that the station manager when I went on the air was Chopper McKinnon. That's one more thing I'd like to thank him for.

As Chris has been hosting the show the last couple of weeks, nobody has really interviewed him about his connections and memories of Chopper. It would be nice if somebody could do that in this second hour if it is not already planned.

Matthew & Chris I wish I could be with you guys in person as well as Irene's like I did for the Back 40 10th anniversary in 2000 but sorry can't make it Chopper was one of a kind and he was the best I loved him on the radio even before I came to CKCU Myself Thanks for the memories Chopper and we will remember you at the 40th anniversary of CKCU in 2015 that's for sure.

I really hope we're going to hear Cam Well's voice added to this wonderfull tribute. Cam was an integral part of Canadian Spaces, enabling Chopper to continue the show for so long.

The great thing about CKCU-On-Demand is that I can pause now and then to get a grip on my emotions. Thank-you for these extremely moving tribute shows. I loved hearing all the wonderful recollections of Chopper. He left us a wealth of sublime memories which I know we'll be sharing for a long time to come. Thanks also to those who posted the videos from Irene's. Chopper would have absolutely loved Terry's song. The chorus may well become an anthem. Ceylon, Chop. Abyssinia.
