Ottawa Folk Festival Feature - Interviews with Black Prairie, The Wooden Sky and Craig Cardiff

The Ottawa Folk Festival runs Sept. 10th-14th at Hog's Back Park (www.ottawafolk.com) Today we talk to three great indie acts at the Festival. Jon Neufeld of Black Prairie talks about how the group grew as an offshoot of the Decemberists (four members are part of the Decemberists) and how the music has evolved from instrumentals into great songs... and some that really rock! Black Prairie performs at the Folk Fest on Friday, Sept. 12th and participates in Under the Covers I on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Gavin Gardiner of the Wooden Sky talks about the group's fabulous new album "Let's Be Ready" and how they worked hard to capture the energy and edge of the band's live sound when they went into the studio this time around. The Wooden Sky performs at the Folk Festival on Sunday, Sept. 14th at 5:00 p.m. and Gavin will be part of Under the Covers II at 3:00 in the afternoon. Craig Cardiff is a master of great cover songs and he will join Gavin in that session at the Folk Festival. He called in to talk about the power of songs and what attracts him to cover some songs. He will perform his own set at the Folk Festival on the Sunday at 5:00 p.m. as well ... so you have to choose between the two or check out 1/2 of each set!?!? The challenges of a Festival with lots of great music. Get out and see some live music this week and I'll see you at Folk Fest next weekend.
