Ornette Coleman was born in Texas on March 30, 1930. He died in 2015. This episode of Rabble continues the celebration that began in the 2nd hour of In A Mellow Tone - starting with six more tracks from 1958, '59, '60 and 1970. The bulk of the program is devoted to the full album, Free Jazz - A Collective Improvisation by the Ornette Coleman Double Quartet, recorded in December 1960 as one uninterrupted take of 36+ minutes. The two quartets are Ornette/Don Cherry/Scott LaFaro/Billy Higgins on one channel, and Eric Dolphy/Freddie Hubbard/Charlie Haden/Ed Blackwell on the other.
