2019 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Art Blakey, a key figure in the history of jaz zdrumming and, more importantly for this program, leader for 35 years of the Jazz messengers, finishing school/graduate seminar for young musicians, many of whom went on to significant solo careers. Tonight we listen to nine of those musicians.
