Rabble Without A Cause
Wednesday February 13th, 2019 with Bernard Stepien
Swiss pianist Irene Schweizer with drummer Han Bennink

Last week I featured pianist Irene Schweizer with drummer Pierre Favre in my IAMT show. I was frustrated not to be able to feature Schweizer with Han Bennink because I misplaced their CD in the creative mess on my desk. I finally found it, so today we will catch up… Han Bennink is one of the most important European drummer. His solos are memorable. He is a master at bringing life to found objects that include all what is around the drum set like, chairs, floors, Dutch wooden shoes, pizza boxes or even parts of his body. His solos are always guided by some standard old fashioned song that from to time to time he whistles. In duos such as the one featured tonight, he follows whoever he plays with in the most unexpected details of his musical partner. Thus, the best way to listen to Han Bennink is to go to Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CywghE1pk5Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Q1XL3WEl08 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWYUnfSYtrs
