French saxophonist André Jaume vs Indonesian Gamelan by Sapto Raharjo

Saxophonist André Jaume is known to be a long time associate of Chicago saxophonist Joe McPhee and the legendary Jimmy Giuffre in the ‘70s and ‘80. All of which has been recorded by the famous HatHut label. Jaume has never left his birth place, Marseilles and thus has eluded the fame of Parisian musicians. In the ’90, Jaume embarked on another musical exploration, Indonesian Gamelan. Tonight we will survey a recording of 1995. Here Jaume tackles the Indonesian scales called the Pelogs and rhythms that are unusual to the western ear.
