The Chicago Reed Quartet is an offspring of the heavy loaded Chicago Free Jazz Music scene. It is composed of exceptional musicians Nick Mazzarella, Dave Rempis, mars Williams and Ken Vandermark. Their music is beyond the barbershop quartet approach of any quartet, i.e. making nice sounding parallel voices give perfect harmonies. Instead, a combination of individual outbursts on a neatly composed harmonic background with minimalistic patterns à la Thelonious Monk prevails. Tonight we will observe all that with their 2015 recording Western Automatic.
