2016 Pulitzer Prize winner Henry Threadgill has developed an individual approach to setting musical structure and shaping improvisation for his longest standing group. But Zooid is easily identifiable by its instrumentation and sound as well, strongly determined (to these ears anyway) by Liberty Ellman’s acoustic guitar. We play cuts from the 2010 ‘This Brings Us To, Vol 2’ release, as well as selections related to the Zooid sound by Lonnie Johnson/Eddie Lang, Sam Rivers, Lori Freedman and Marc Ribot.
