Oscar Peterson in Russia: the 50th anniversary of a diplomatic incident
Oscar Peterson, with Niels-Hennig Orsted Pederson and Jake Hanna, ended their 1974 Russian tour abruptly due to their mistreatment by Russian authorities. Two days before they left, they recorded a concert in Tallinn, Estonia. On this show we will hear that concert, as well as the details about this little-known diplomatic incident. We will also hear selections from recordings of Oscar Peterson with Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Eldridge, and Roy Brown with Joe Pass that he did in the weeks after his brief visit to Russia.
