In his 80 years as a performer, composer and band leader, Martial Solal encompassed all of jazz history. He began his career touring with Sidney Bechet, and afterwards played everything from big-band swing to bop to post-bop and free jazz. He composed chamber music, wrote scores for more than 20 films, and recorded more than 70 albums as both a soloist and a leader.
On sides 3 and 4 of this box set, Solal plays solo, in a piano trio, with just bass and with just drums, and with a big band.
