In the world of jazz, having an affiliation with Blue Note, one of the longest running jazz labels in the world, is a rite of passage.
Although it was founded in 1939, BlueNote did not induct any women onto its label until the mid 1950s. At that point in time, instrumental jazz was much more popular and had been a male-dominated environment.
Many female jazz musicians have since built impactful careers with Blue Note, thanks to their innovation, talent, and showmanship.
