Our host Natalie McGrath breaks down Big Band Jazz Music from a historically contextual lens, analyzing the history of its emergence and evolution through sociological factors that played large roles in its development. This session will cover the impacts of the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression and the Second World War on jazz. She will simultaneously be focusing on the masters of Big Band jazz who were instrumental in shaping this genre and paving the way with their impactful showmanship and technique.

In the first half, listeners can expect to hear Fletcher Henderson, Benny Goodman, Chick Webb and Duke Ellington. The second half of the show will showcase music from Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, and Count Basie.
