Wednesday May 4th, 2022 with Bruce Walton
Ron Carter's 85th Birthday

A sampling of some of the MANY fine recordings the famous bass player has appeared on, plus a few of his own recordings. The online Lord jazz discography (www.lordisco.com) has over 1200 entries (sessions) for Ron Carter; the Guinness Book of Records says over 2200. I am inclined to go with the discography, not that it matters much.
Bass Duet
Ron Carter (w/George Duvivier) - Where? (1961)
Two's Blues
Jim Hall - Concierto (1975)
Heart & Soul
Ron Carter & Cedar Walton - Heart & Soul (1981)
Celestial Blues (Andy Bey vcl)
Gary Bartz NTU Troop - Harlem Bush Music - Uhuru (1970)
Oops! It was only after this show was recorded and submitted for airing that I realized Ron Carter could not have been the bass player on the 1956 Rollins tune, as he only started recording in 1960. So I don't know where that came from. Oh well, at least it's a cool track.
St. Thomas
Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus (1956)
Evil Eye
Chico Hamilton - The Further Adventures Of El Chico (1966)
Sophisticated Lady
Archie Shepp - The Way Ahead (1968)

Thanks for doing this Bruce. So hard to choose songs... you could do this show 100 ways

Absolutely - I took the easy route and just went with what I had, but there could be multiple versions. You could do the same type of show with any 'go-to' guy like Ron Carter. Hank Jones, for similar longevity, would be one.

Mr. Sneezy Waters is indeed, Mighty! Heard him on The Mighty many times! "You've Got Sawdust On The Floor Of Your Heart" is still best song title ever!;-) Thanks for great music!
