The Music Of Miles Davis, Born May 26, 1926

Miles Davis was born May 26, 1926 in Alton, Illinois. His father bought him his first trumpet at age 13. Miles would go on to be instrumental in changing the direction of jazz five times - bebop, birth of the cool, modal jazz, electric rock-inspired jazz and pop-inspired jazz. Tonight we sample two hours of his vast body of work from 1945 to 1970.

Good stuff, Ron! How do you distill Miles Davis to two hours? I am partial to the Shorter years and especially explorations like In A Silent Way and Bitches Brew. Even with "less Miles" on those late 60s and 70s albums, you can't go wrong with a cast of Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, and Teo Macero's production.
