In all beginnings... a mystical, magic force. What course, what destiny... determined in time. Strata-East records was founded in Brooklyn in 1971 by Charles Tolliver and Stanley Cowell. Its music catalog remains a vital influence on today's jazz. As an independent artist-run label, it was an important platform for Black voices in the 1970s.
