The 70s saw a dramatic slow down in sales of jazz recordings, with pop, rock and soul filling the market. In reaction, Creed Taylor created CTI, a label dedicated to quality mainstream and funky jazz played by top musicians with a commercial objective. CTI sales successfully put jazz back on the map. Although the quality of the music on the label varied, there are enough splendid recordings to satisfy the discriminating jazz fan. Tonight, we will listen to the best of CTI.
