John Coltrane recorded 8 albums for Atlantic between 1959 and 1961. They followed his Prestige period during which he played as a sideman with Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk amongst others. In the Atlantic recordings he played as leader, with Don Cherry, Eric Dolphy, McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones and many others. He also perfected his style, made his debut on soprano saxophone and expanded his compositions skills. We will sample 5 of these recordings.
