An almost-star: alto sax player Arthur Blythe
Tonight we sample from four classic albums by the outstanding alto sax player Arthur Blythe. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Blythe seemed likely to be the first free-leaning jazz player to find a mass audience. He didn't, in part because Wynton Marsalis claimed the limelight. But Blythe's music stands the test of time.

Jim, I'm really enjoying this program. Although I've heard some Blythe before I had never really paid much attention to his music. This is good stuff! I am loving the tuba! Thanks so much.
