The career and music of the King Of Zydeco, CLIFTON CHENIER a.k.a. the King Of The Bayous, the Swamp Boss. From his first recordings in 1954 to his resurgence in the mid Sixties and career in the Seventies.
Early zydeco was also known as "la musique Creole", "French music", & "la- la music". A "fais-do-do" was party where this music was played. Zydeco is a phonetic corruption of the French word for bean from the old song "Les Haricots Sont Pa Sale" (translated as "the snap beans are not salty"). A snap bean salad (the Creole equivalent of potato salad) was served at the church picnics and house parties where this music was played.
