Our diligent, talented, and devoted reporters returned to the newsroom at 8:30 a.m. after a much needed week-long term break.
As soon as they stepped foot into the newsroom, our reporters immediately got back into the swing of chasing same-day stories, editing audio clips and scripts, including creating a unique playlist to suit the themes of this week’s lineup.
Even though it was Halloween night, the Midweek team continued their practise of convening the night before to organise the production of today’s broadcast. It made for another efficient and impressive start to the show.
What was most impressive was that the song and bridge sheets, which make up for a total of 10 minutes of printing time (and whole heck load of paper), were ready to go by 10:00 a.m. Our group really knows how to get the job done!
Three reporters were also absent from today’s newsroom as they wrapped up their internships outside Ottawa.
This meant that the line-up for today’s show was missing a total of six stories!
However, the Midweek team, as always, went above and beyond to present a solid lineup, by no later than 12:00 p.m., and were able to produce and abundance of stories to make up for it. When you have a resilient and adaptable crew leading a broadcast, there’s never a need to panic!
The live show featured updates about the Israeli-Hamas war, including a report on the Israeli strike on a refugee camp in northern Gaza on Oct. 31, and the aftermath of Hurricane Otis in Mexico. The next items in the lineup discussed how Ottawa has been voted as one of Canada’s “rattiest” cities, and how a taskforce will be making an impact this winter to help find short-term solution for Ottawa’s unhoused population. There were also stories which paid tribute to Canadian rock and roll legend Robbie Robertson and the acclaimed Canadian actor, Matthew Perry, who starred as Chandler Bing on the 1990’s sitcom “Friends”.
A fascinating and heart-felt show to the say least!
See you next week!
