Margo, one of Margaret's many Dutch cousins, lives in Holland and is studying to become an English teacher. Last year, as part of her program, she had planned to come to Ottawa (and Canada) for the first time to go abroad and work. She was to find a volunteer job, and immerse herself in the language and the culture. National Volunteer Week took place April 18-24th. People, Words & Change, a local non-profit literacy organization who provides one-on-one tutoring for adults in Ottawa, celebrated the dedication of their volunteers through a fun evening on Zoom. Those of you who have lived in Ottawa for a chunk of time will surely remember the Arrogant Worms. The special guest for the event was one-third of the Arrogant Worms, Trevor Strong. Trevor is currently working on his PhD in education, and he provided humour and song during the annual event to thank PWC volunteers. Check him out at trevorstong.org! |
