quantum entanglement

happy solstice! as we approach the darkest point of the year, i've about the concept of quantum entanglement today. On the topic, NASA writes: "...The idea that particles of the same origin, which were once connected, always stay connected. Even if they separate and move far apart in time and space, they continue to share something beyond a mere bond — they shed their original quantum states and take on a new, united quantum state which they maintain forever. This means if something happens to one particle, it affects all the others with which it’s entangled [...] Thus, “reality” as we know it is much more uncertain, with the possibility for many solutions or outcomes to exist, rather than just one." Hypothetically, if you measured information from one quantum entangled particle, you could get real-time information on its twin -- even if its sister particle was light-years away. I'm a journalism major, and clearly not a physicist. But this concept has been making my brain spin in circles all week. I am thinking of people who share my origin points: the kids i sang hymns with at Sunday school, or the kind man sitting next to me on my first flight to Canada. People I've loved, and will likely never see again. The weird, bizarre entanglements that make up our lives and the red string of fate (or physics?) connecting us all. For the next hour, close your eyes and let the invisible forces binding you to everyone you've ever known wash over you.
