Music For A While
Monday March 3rd, 2025 with David Cavlovic
End of the Dvořák Symphony Cycle

There are many fine recordings of the complete Dvořák Symphonies if you are so inclined to purchase a set. Some are performances by Czech orchestras; others orchestras directed by Czech conductors. But this set we've been listening to, recorded in the 1960's by Decca UK, of the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by István Kertész, is still my favourite.
Franz Josef Haydn: Violin Sonata No. 1 in G Major, Hob. XV/32
Steven Staryk, violin; Lise Boucher, piano - The Art of Steven Staryk - Orion Canadian
I. Andante
II. Allegro
Antonín Dvořák: Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95, B. 178, "Z nového světa"
London Symphony Orchestra; István Kertész, conductor - Dvořák: The Symphonies. London Symphony Orchestra. István Kertész - London
I. Adagio—Allegro molto
II. Largo
III. Scherzo: Molto vivace
IV. Finale: Allegro
Zoltán Kodály: Serenade for 2 violins & viola, Op. 12
Ani Kavafian, violin; Joseph Silverstein, violin; Paul Neubauer, viola - The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Bartól. Kodály. Dohnányi - Delos
I. Allegramente
II. Lento, ma non troppo
III. Vivo

Thank you David for introducing me to Dvorak and his 9 Symphonies. Extraordinary works. I have been totally enthralled throughout this series. Do you know if there is a CD set of the complete works; if so can you pass on the label and title info to me. Again, many thanks for the introduction !!

Hi Neil. Take a look at my blurb above the track listings. I highly recommend the set we've been listening to.
