Legendary country singer Loretta Lynn died on October 4th at age 90. She came from humble beginnings as a coal miner’s daughter from Butcher Hollow, Kentucky. Loretta Lynn’s autobiography, the feature film that was based on it, and her signature song are called "Coal Miner’s Daughter."

Mary McCaslin was a folksinger, songwriter and pioneering open-tuning guitarist, who died on October 2, at age 75, following a seven-year battle with progressive supranuclear palsy. Mary was also an old friend who I first met circa 1973, when we both became part of a circle of friends centered around The Barn in North Ferrisburgh, Vermont, then the headquarters of Philo Records.

A lovely tribute to Mary. I have fond memories of first seeing her at the Golem in Montreal when I was at McGill and then many times at Passim in Cambridge when I went to graduate school in Boston.

Mike, did you go to Bohemian Embassy in Toronto...Don Cullen's club?

Mike Regenstreif (host)
No, the Bohemian Embassy days were a little before my time. The Riverboat, Fiddler's Green, Egerton's and the Groaning Board were the Toronto folk clubs I got to.
