In the final part of the show, we’ll hear more classic songs composed by George Gershwin with lyrics by his brother, Ira Gershwin.

| Songs from "Porgy & Bess."
"Porgy & Bess" premiered on Broadway in 1935 and was based on Du Bose Heyward’s novel, "Porgy," published in 1925. Porgy & Bess tells the story of Porgy, a disabled African American in in the slums of Charleston, South Carolina who is trying to rescue Bess from Crown, her violently abusive and domineering lover, and Sportin’ Life, her drug dealer. |
