About Malek Eye

"Early in my childhood I knew that music and film were going to be pivotal in my life.

I remember watching my mom passing time with joy doing chores, singing, smiling and dancing to the tape recorder. My mom listened to Arabic, French and English music. I also remember my dad dancing to “I feel good” and the Sex machine of James Brown who he saw perform in Tunisia. Also, every time my parents drove the car for a ride we would listen to music as a family. Music was a big part of my childhood and our happy moments as a family.

Film, as well, played a very important role in my life as a child. I remember literally being transported in the movie and forgetting about the world and reality. I remember watching many different genres of movies in French, Italian, English and Arabic. I recall that my wish as a child was to be an actor in Hollywood! I also remember the quiet and peace that watching a movie would bring me even if it was at a crowded movie theater. My happy place soon became the video store.

Studying film was an amazing experience. I got to learn behind the scenes and to understand the craft better. I was starting to feel like a magician learning new tricks each day. From film school, I got to do my first short movie that I wrote the script for, directed and produced. For my first short, I chose to write about a true story on the aftermath of September 11 , 2001. Then I started making music videos combing my love for music and film. The first video we did was for a song"Stand Up"from my old band from Los Angeles"Global Talk" it was more like a small short movie. We called it the Chase Montréal. The second music video was also for Global Talk called LA Luna. We had a script that I wrote and a bigger cast. For our third music video "Gruveon" we had about 20 people involved in this project. We had a choreographer and two Directors of Photography with four different locations it was a beautiful project that was made thanks to the help and expertise of everyone that played a key role in making it happen. I did couple more videos but then I had to stop for health reasons then to make a family. When my kids grew a bit older I needed to come back to art. I have been bottling up for years. I did two videos for the a local band from here. And then in 2018 I co written with my wife and co-produced and directed the music video Nurturing with Ghazi Ghazouani, an upcoming producer and director from Tunisia. This music video was for the local band Willows & Horses that became Menthull. Then came the pandemic and we couldn't really do anything we were all confined at home. I was going crazy like many of us. I had to find a way to keep my sanity so thankfully I had been back to making music with my new band Two Oceans and One Sea. The songs were ready but we didn't and couldn't shoot a music video. So I started digging and I came across some of my travel footage. It was shot from a cell phone more like amateur footage. However I was determined to make it happen after many hours of editing "La Vida came to life. Then for the next songs I was out of footage and we still had the pandemic. So I started digging again and again then I came to discover stock footage.Started practicing and practicing until I came up with a concept behind"KHALINI" the challenge was that I already had a script for it but I couldn't shoot so I had to go another direction and the result made me consider this other option. Since then, I started combining stock footage and live footage and crafting my editing."
