Correction: a little bird has just told me that the piece by Beethoven is being played by the Vienna Philharmonic, conducted by Leonard Bernstein, but I'd said in the programme that Peter and the Wolf was played by them. That's been corrected on the Playlist.

Yes, I don’t remember David Bowie being on any of the recordings that I heard growing up. So many classical pieces have, or elude to, birdsong.
