Berlin trio Tangerine Dream recently completed a 16 date tour of the UK and Ireland. This evening we have Part 2 of an interview with the band.
Tangerine Dream were founded in 1967 by the late Edgar Froese, who died in 2015. Over the past 50+ years since then line-ups have changed, as have the times, the musical trends and the fashions. Within those changes the increased usage of non-acoustic musical instruments has led to innovative artists like Tangerine Dream (TD) extending the boundaries of creative sound colour and texture.
In 2005 Thorsten Quaeschning became an official member of the band, having spent a couple of years working with Edgar behind the scenes. In 2011 Japanese violinist Hoshiko Yamane joined TD ; both she and Thorsten were in the TD line-up that played the Ottawa Blues Fest in 2012.
Following Edgar's death, Thorsten and Hoshiko have remained ever-present members, whilst London-based member Ulrich Schnauss, originally from Kiel, Germany, and who joined in 2014, has now left the band.
In 2020 Berliner Paul Frick, who was - and who also remains - a member of the electroacoustic trio Brandt, Brauer and Frick, joined Thorsten and Hoshiko to complete the current line-up.
