Bedtime Stories
Tuesday November 2nd, 2021 with Guest Host Steve Kirkland
Re-made/Re-modelled

This evening's edition of Bedtime Stories is the first Funding Drive show we've produced since the programme made its debut in December 2020. And tonight's edition is the only one that airs during this year's Funding Drive. If you've enjoyed any of the editions we'd love to receive a pledge from you. Thank you so much for supporting Bedtime Stories and CKCU-FM. You can donate to Bedtime Stories by clicking on the Donate to This Team button on the program's Show Page. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/CKCU/p2p/CKCU-2021-funding-drive/team/bedtime-stories/

Hi everyone, Steve will be hosting this evening's edition in my continued absence from the airwaves. Since first joining CKCU in 1982 I've always enjoyed inviting and receiving the involvement of listeners. Long time listeners may even remember a feature of one of my 2 shows in the 80s that sometimes included the opportunity for a listener to come in and play an hour of their favourite tunes. (If you could answer the simple teaser question correctly!) Back in October of 2020 when I was thinking about ideas for a new show, one of my first thoughts was to offer listeners the opportunity to recommend artists and tunes for upcoming shows. So, as I thank you for pledging to this and/or any other CKCU shows during the Funding Drive, I also thank everyone who has contributed recommendations and anecdotes over the first 11 months of Bedtime Stories, or who has contributed suggestions for tunes to play, or artists to feature, via the show's virtual "Listening Room" (i.e the interactive section of the playlist). I'd also like to thank Steve Kirkland, my old mate of very many moons, for stepping in to cover for me whilst I remain unable to present the show myself. I can't tell you how much I miss producing and presenting the show. Hopefully I'll be back before too long. Look after yourselves everyone Chris

Hi Chris/Steve, Yes indeed it’s Funding Drive time again. Although it’s not quite like funding drives in the past, dedicated listeners who are able to will contribute to keep the Mighty 93’s voice alive and well. The fact that Chris produced content from ‘beyond the pond’ and Steve has stepped up in his absence and hillbilly regularly contributes (as do others, too.) speaks volumes about the dedication, creativity and adaptability of the volunteers behind the mic. I am so grateful for the opportunity to participate—while Welcome To My World takes a little break, I strongly encourage listeners to contribute!

The music on tonight's program exemplifies the wide range of styles and eras Chris explores on each edition of Bedtime Stories. All tied together thematically and presented professionally, more evidence of the commitment of programmers and the quality of programming at The Mighty 93.1, which each year requires not only recognition by listeners but shared funding. Please Donate to show your support.

Oops, almost missed hillbilly in there (Hi!), along with Shelley a frequent actively-engaged listener to this program. Active engagement is one of the key elements of this show, and in the context of Funding Drive, integral -- make yourself heard and all of us happier, by pledging now!

I've been happy to fill in for Chris over the past few programs, and will be happy filling in for him as needed in weeks to come... I can't match him for charm (or the English accent) but I enjoy trying... his is a distinct voice and a distinct show that is deserves greater attention and, of course, your support in pursuit of this station's Funding Drive goal of $160,000.

Yikes! I first heard Little Fluffy Clouds exactly 30 years ago in November 1991 when I went to visit my sister who was living in Toronto at the time. I was positively blown away. Who is the woman’s voice in the song? I used to know but I’ve forgotten.

If you find the musical bed behind my patter this evening less than endearing, it was my intention to infa-loop the Bedtime Stories intro theme... think I may have inadvertently infa-looped an annoying clang... or was it Freudian or Pavlovian, intended to elicit a response?

I note that CKCU has received in excess of $25,000 so far, on this, the fifth of 17 days of Funding Drive. We have a loooooonnnnggg way to go, and notwithstanding lots of time for you to make a pledge, it would be great for this show to receive a donation while it airs live, letting us know there is an audience for Bedtime Stories.

Right! Chris did say that was Rikki Lee Jones—I’d forgotten—a great piece of music trivia! Thanks so much. Congrats on Bedtime Stories first (and only for 2021) Funding Drive Show.
