Bedtime Stories
Tuesday June 1st, 2021 with Chris Lyne
River People

The River People This evening we'll be drifting down rivers together: it might be on the currents of the Mississippi or the Mohawk, or maybe on the Trent or the Tagus, or perhaps swept along the Rhone or Rhine. Or possibly none of these. We'll hear artists from Ontario, Quebec, Europe, the Caribbean and the States all of whom have lived near and/or been influenced by rivers. *As always here at "Bedtime Stories" you're invited to use the interactive section at any time to suggest or recommend tunes written on the subject of rivers for future shows.

Good evening everyone, Maybe you've been out for a stroll today along the canal or somewhere with a view of the local rivers. One of these will get a mention in the show tonight. If you're up'n'about still please do come into the listening room (here) and say "hi" :-)

Hi Chris, I just know that the next hour will be filled with ‘river’ songs that I’ve never heard before. Indeed, rivers and other bodies of water have done much to inspire musicians and others, too.

Hi Shelley Welcome back to the "Listening Room": how right you are: bodies of water have inspired so many works of art. You may hear a familiar tune or two tonight, but not necessarily by the artist usually associated with that tune. ;-)

Weather Report—great late night music. The Ottawa River isn’t too far from where I live. We’re so fortunate that it’s so close by!

Jamaicans Monty Alexander and Ernest Ranglin are associated with performances at Jamaica's international jazz festival held at Ocho Rios (8 Rivers), scheduled to return in 2022. Which reminds me of the night I cycled home from CKCU after my Tuesday evening 2 hour show and stopped at the Astrolab right by the river to catch the great Sonny Rollins playing an outdoor gig within that year's jazz festival. Unforgettable.
