In. Just in time for Crimson cover from Marissa Nadler. Gooder! Indie-folky rendition. (My usual "takes a LOT of nerve to even try on such classics" applies.)

Noice loop-back(s) Marianne Faithfull <--> Stones <--> Marianne Faithfull. We miss her.

10:22 AM, March 7th, 2025
P
OH. 'Cept "As Tears Go By" was written by Stones Producer Andrew Oldham me-thinks? Though she would be who got it out there first.

10:27 AM, March 7th, 2025

The wiki on that song: "As Tears Go By" is a song written by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Rolling Stones' manager Andrew Loog Oldham. Marianne Faithfull recorded and released it as a single in the United Kingdom in 1964. Her song peaked at number nine on both the UK and Irish singles charts.

P, you'll enjoy this stuff I think. Again the wiki. "As Tears Go By" was one of the early compositions by Jagger and Richards; previously the Rolling Stones had chiefly been performing American blues and R&B tunes. By one account, Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham locked Jagger and Richards in a kitchen in order to force them to write a song together, even suggesting what type of song he wanted: "I want a song with brick walls all around it, high windows and no sex." The result initially was named "As Time Goes By", the title of the song Dooley Wilson sings in the film Casablanca. It was Oldham who replaced "Time" with "Tears". Richards said: We thought, what a terrible piece of tripe. We came out and played it to Andrew [Oldham], and he said "It's a hit." We actually sold this stuff, and it actually made money. Mick and I were thinking, this is money for old rope![5] According to Jagger biographer Philip Norman, the song was mainly created by Jagger, in co-operation with session guitarist Big Jim Sullivan,[6] although Jagger claims he was responsible for the lyrics while Richards wrote the melody.[7] Oldham subsequently gave the ballad (a format that the Stones were not yet known for) to Faithfull, then 17, for her to record as a B-side. Oldham played a demo for her with Jagger singing and Big Jim Sullivan on acoustic guitar. "He handed me a scrawled lyric sheet and I went back into the studio and did it. As soon as I heard the cor anglais playing the opening bars I knew it was going to work. After a couple of takes it was done. Andrew came and gave me a big hug. 'Congratulations darling. You've got yourself a number six,' he said."

I've just had to look up what the heck a 'cor anglais' actually is. Again the wiki: Cor anglais Woodwind musical instrument The cor anglais, or English horn, is a double-reed woodwind instrument in the oboe family. It is approximately one and a half times the length of an oboe, making it essentially an alto oboe in F. The cor anglais is a transposing instrument pitched in F, a perfect fifth lower than the oboe. Way more than I understand, but there you are!

N&DL, many Thanks for the tip, and the link! Looks/sounds interesting, indeed.

Good catch B. What the heck is a glamping yurt?! Sounds like a foot fungus or goat species ...... lol google says however......Yurts are round tent-like structures that merge the worlds of tents, huts and houses. They are traditionally used as portable dwellings by nomadic cultures of central Asia, but have become a growing accommodation trend around the world and in the glamping industry. Most glamping yurt vacations have running water and heating, and all have comfortable beds with everything you would need for a relaxing night. Yurts are a perfect upgrade from your normal camping tent. Cool !

11:18 AM, March 7th, 2025
B
It makes perfect sense, of course! But the *sound* of glamping yurts is something...

11:20 AM, March 7th, 2025
N & DL
hahahaha.......now I am going to be haunted for days with glamping yurt echoes............it's like something you might "bring up" with accompanying gagging....hahaha

BTW That Marrisa Nadler cover of King Crimson's "Moonchild" really had a James Bond sound about it, like I had missed one of the Bond movies and this theme. Thanks again Steve for a phenominal show today
