Oops...sorry, you didnt have to, but I sur do appreciate it! The reason is I discovered both bands at the same time - " a long friggin time ago" in the seventies, and they do kind of have similar directions and timbres. Thank you!

I’m not surprised, although pleasantly surprised, that the CKCU library still has Gong on vinyl. I’ve been listening to the station since my undergrad days in the mid-1970's when it was only broadcast across campus. This predates even the late 70’s punk explosion . At that time, and even as the station became licensed to broadcast across the city, bands like Can, Gong, Agitation Free, Faust and Amon Düül II were on the playlists of most the station’s DJs and the station library which I visited more than once was packed with European vinyl imports. Legendary shows like ‘Europa’s Abduction’ introduced me to these bands and many more. Alas, these institutional memories seem to be lost at the station and certainly none of the shows were archived (except for a few that I recorded on cassette). Occasionally I consider applying to host a new version of that show on CKCU; in lieu of that, I’m pleased to see you flying the flag passed on by the late and lamented Friday Morning Cartunes.

Thanks for that comment! I always get a little joy when I look for something like that in the library and it's actually there. I also love that you have some cassettes of the glory days. I love all the variety we have at the station but I do try to pay a little tribute to the Cartunes vibe when I get the Friday shift :-D.

Even John's old show had room for improvement and you're doing a fine job. I think he played Can almost every week, so I always perk up when I hear them. Their new Live in Aston 1977 is also excellent. BTW, there is a new live Soft Machine 1971 out on Cuniform Records that is worth a spin.

I like the more Wyatt-centric stuff the best, but super happy this one got out. I feel like it's the definitive document of the 1971 version of the group. Bobby, we used to have our own Free-Son (a place where I spent way too much money), La Boite Musicale on Saint-Joseph in Hull. It was a wonderful place and dearly missed.
