Chance Meeting
Friday November 27th, 2020 with Heavy Ben
Community focused Experimental-Ambient-Electronic sounds from Canada

Chance meeting on the musical fringe of art and activism Support your community! This hour offers but a few examples of recently issued music from active Canadian artists. Musicians, curators, labels and charities need our support. It's great to hear these creative sounds being produced for worthy causes amid trying circumstances. Ways you can help: - offer help to someone in a marginalized group or situation - buy a record / cassette / CD / t-shirt / from an independent artist; they cannot tour or sell merch in person and many have no other revenue - purchase a compilation / album / song on bandcamp.com - show your support on social media - donate to a charity mentioned below or one that you have an affinity to - write a sternly-worded letter - throw a brick through a window ;) Thank you to those who contributed to CKCU. Together we make a difference. If you have the means, you have the responsibility. More information and tracks from these comps may be heard on Heavy Friends Nov 28 https://cod.ckcufm.com/programs/410/49915.html

Canadian artists have come together in support of Black Health Alliance, Indspire and the 519 – all Black, Indigenous and LGBTQ2S charities. The compilation is called Ever New, named after a Beverly Glenn-Copeland song from his rediscovered 1986 new age classic Keyboard Fantasies. Glenn-Copeland gives his blessing to the comp, and it’s bookended by two covers of his songs by Toronto artists – one by The Head (Joseph Shabason & Thom Gill) and Jennifer Castle.

Covid has pretty much put an end to live shows for the last few months. The music industry has been hit hard by the pandemic. The Ottawa Experimental Music Team wanted to help the experimental scene here in Ottawa but we weren't quite sure how to go about doing it. The idea we came up with was to put together a compilation that would be available on Bandcamp. We would make it a free download (due to label restrictions etc.) with the option to pay. Any money raised would be split amongst the bands equally. With this mission statement in hand, we set out to contact bands/artists.

The response was overwhelming and even more incredible was the fact that the bands wanted any money raised to go to a charity. This was paying it forward to the max.

The charities we have chosen to support are The Parkdale Food Centre (parkdalefoodcentre.ca), Tungasuvvingat Inuit (tiontario.ca/about-ti) and The Ottawa Street Medics (www.ottawamatters.com/helpers/ottawa-street-medics-providing-supplies-and-emotional-support-for-transient-population-2845603).

Thanks Mike P for your weekly ears - yeah the 45 show was fun to put together. A Farfisa theme for a future episode could work
